Tom & Claus

Lemniskade is Tom and Claus. Architect Tom Frantzen often worked with building manager Claus Oussoren. The idea to start Lemniskade Projects together arose from a shared vision of sustainability and the built environment.

Director Architecture & Development

Tom Frantzen founded an independent architectural office after winning the “Charlotte Köhlerprijs” in 1996. This office was mainly focused on the cross over between visual arts and architecture. In 2002, he founded FRANTZEN et al Architecten in Amsterdam. In the following years, several buildings of his design were completed and featured in (inter)national trade journals.

The residential building De Keyzer on the Czaar Peterstraat in Amsterdam was nominated for the Amsterdamse Architectuurprijs and the Gouden A.A.P., and was awarded the VKG Architectuurprijs 2011 and the Zuiderkerkprijs 2011, the award for best residential building in Amsterdam. In 2010, he founded Lemniskade with Claus Oussoren. Their first project, Patch22, was nominated for the Zuiderkerkprijs 2016 and won a Green Good Design Award in 2017, the international WAN Residential Award 2016, the Dutch Sustainable Building award 2018 and the Golden Pyramid 2018.

Claus about Tom:

“I met Tom when I asked him to join the sustainability tender of the Amsterdam municipality for building plot 22. The characteristics of ‘unconventional’ and ‘determined’, which we needed so badly for that project, perfectly described him. Tom is the perfect partner when it comes to non-standard, complex and challenging development projects that require a sense of stubbornness to achieve good results.”
